07/07/2009Simmons Wins Club ChampionshipOver the fourth of July weekend Duke Simmons reclaimed the club championship title after a five-year drought. It all came down to a playoff between Duke and Kevin Brady. Kevin held a one stroke lead going into the final hole of the 36-hole tournament but bogied 18 while Duke parred the final hole. That took the two to a playoff where Duke rolled in fifteen footer for birdie to win the sudden death playoff. Both shot one over par for the two days and coming in third place was past championship Ken Peacock who finished the tournament at three over par. Congratulations to the three who made it close all the way to the end. The championship flight "B" was won by Denny Howell with a 156 total, Bob Rupnik won the "C" flight with a scorecard playoff over Brian Brister, Buddy Matthews beat Jim Woodson in a scorecard playoff for the 1st flight title, Larry Sanford won the 2nd flight and Bob Landry beat George Butts in a scorecard playoff to win the 3rd flight. Congratulations to all who played.
